FAQ
Safety
If you rent a boat we assume that you can swim. If this is not the case, wear a life jacket. To rent a sailboat some sailing experience is required.
Preparation
Make sure you are well prepared to go on the water. Listen carefully to the instructions and pay attention to the weather forecast. When the weather is warm and sunny, bring enough to drink, sunscreen, sunglasses and a bath towel.
Boat and equipment
Handle the boat and inventory neatly. At the end of the trip the boat needs to be delivered clean and tidy again.
At Sloep&Meer you can easily make your own reservations using our online booking system. You can also book by e-mail or telephone. This information can be found under contact in the menu. Don’t forget to mention the type of boat, the date and time, your name and your telephone number.
If the desired boat is still available, you will receive a confirmation of your reservation by e-mail.
If you can’t book, if you can’t find a solution or if you have specific wishes, please contact us so we can help you further.
High season is in the months of July and August. The weekends before that and in September are also busy and therefore only full day rentals are done. On the day itself you can check if there is still a sloop free for a half day.
After your reservation you will receive a confirmation email with the total rental amount and the deposit.Â
When you check in, you pay both amounts in cash or by debit card. (The deposit can also be paid by credit card)
After the final check and check-out you will receive the deposit back as you paid it.Â
- You have entered a Hotmail, live or outlook e-mail address in the contact details. At these addresses our confirmation often ends up in the unwanted mail (spam/junk) box. In most cases you will find our confirmation or reaction there. Solution: right-click on the mail and indicate that this is not an unwanted mail.
- You have entered an incorrect e-mail address in your contact details. As soon as we notice this, we will confirm or respond by phone or by Whatsapp.
- We have not yet had time to check availability and respond. In most cases we can confirm the request quickly, if you have not received anything within a few hours, please contact us by phone.
Our ships are fully insured. During the rental period the tenant is solely responsible for the ship, the crew and any damage to other objects or persons. Fortunately, hardly any damage is ever done, if it does happen it is in almost all cases covered by the insurance. The deposit is to cover the excess. The deposit will be withheld in case of damage or loss.
The deposit you pay is immediately the insurance excess. This means that in the event of damage, you are assured that (provided you follow the rules of the insurance policy and there is no loss of income) you will never lose more than the deposit.Â
Upon return and after inspection of the boat we will refund the deposit (after deduction of the costs still to be settled or damage).Â
It depends on the banks how quickly the money is back in your account. On average this takes about 3 to 5 working days, on weekends or holidays this will take a little longer.Â
If you have not received your deposit back after 7 days, please contact us.Â
For the insurance we have to establish that you are the person who rents the boat. We do this by means of a valid proof of identity of the tenant.Â
After the rental period, if there is no reason to keep the identification, the copy of your identification will be destroyed.Â
On our boats you do not need a license.Â
Our motorboats are very easy to sail. Before departure, we can give a clear explanation about the operation, the sailing rules and the sailing area.Â
We would appreciate it if you indicate when booking if you have never sailed before, so we can plan extra time for an extensive sailing instruction.Â
For renting a sailing boat sailing experience is required.
It is possible to rent a boat from the age of 18.
Adjust your clothes because it always feels fresher on the water than in a city. So don’t just fill your picnic basket with snacks and drinks, but also bring a bag with a jacket or sweater. If you are sailing, a sailing or rain suit (even in fine sailing weather) is useful for splashing water. And when the weather is sunny, don’t forget your sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, a bath towel and your swimwear.
Along the Veerdam there are often plenty of free parking spaces on one side of the road. There is also a large parking lot at the beginning of the Veerdam where you can park for free.
We expect you to be neat and economical with our rental boats, the sailing areas and respect for other water sports enthusiasts and local residents. Do not leave any waste in the water, on islands or in the rental boats, but take it with you and dispose of it in one of the large waste containers next to our office.
Please return the boat clean upon return. This saves you cleaning costs of at least € 35, – which we deduct from the deposit.Â
We expect you to respect the general rules – these rules apply to everyone on the water.
The most important rule is that you must always avoid collisions! (even if you think you have priority) good seamanship is what we call this. Everyone is a day out on the water for fun and nobody is waiting for damage.
Sailing a clear course will show in time what you are planning.
If you want to moor somewhere, check if there is enough space and come and approach calmly. If you can’t do it the first time, then go for another round and try again. Ask someone in your boat or a helpful water sportsman ashore to keep the boat off so you don’t collide with the side or jetty. And secure the boat well with a solid knot.
Do not sail unnecessarily through the fast sailing areas, these are intended for speedboats, jet skis etc. These areas are marked with yellow buoys.Â
Also on board the skipper must be sober!Â
It is forbidden to sail through the Oosterschelde lock without our permission. On the Oosterschelde there is a lot of current and there are many shallows. There is also a lot of waves and large shipping. If we notice this on the GPS, the deposit is deducted as standard.
In case of half a day or day rental you can change your reservation to another date free of charge up to 2 hours before departure in case of thunderstorms, heavy rain or strong winds (wind force 6 or more). With a little rain and up to and including wind force 5, you can go sailing.
We rent for half a day (4 hours).Â
The rental periods are:
09:30-13:30
14:00-18:00
09:30-17:30
And of course several days, weekends, mid weeks and weeks.Â
If you want to sail shorter you can, but you rent and pay at least for the chosen rental period.
Pets are basically not allowed on our boats because of hygiene and damage to the teak and cushions. Dogs are allowed on the Weco 635, Gulden Vlies 780 and the Phoenix 21 sloops. The additional cost per dog is €15. The boat must be returned clean.
Before departure we make sure that there is enough fuel in the tank for a whole day of sailing.Â
If you rent the boat for a longer period, you will be given a full tank of fuel. You are then responsible for refuelling in time with the correct fuel and the costs of this. If desired, we can assist you.
With a boat with an inboard engine you can sail on a full tank for an average of 3 whole days and with an outboard engine for about 1 day.
You can! We even advise you to bring enough food and drinks. Make sure that you do not bring any glassware, this will prevent broken glass in the boat.
Of course you can also moor at one of the restaurants on the water or in Veere.Â
We also offer lunch and drinks packages, you can find them here.
Before departure we will give you a sailing map of the sailing area.Â
